Whenever I travel anywhere, I always have a list of items I prepare prior to packing. Most of my travel experiences have been international. Therefore, this post will be relevant for study or volunteering abroad. Also, I always try to pack at least 3 or 4 days in advance. Quick tip: do not pack last minute. I have so many friends that pack last minute and they always forget some important things.
The feeling of being able to travel on your own and be independent is a great feeling. To successfully not depend on anyone else requires packing the right items. Make sure to not overpack as well. You'll regret it later on.
Let's get to it, packing can be tedious but here's the list:
*Essentials
Clothes (Shirts, Pants, Jackets, Socks, Hats, Underwear, PJs, Shoes)
Chargers (Bring 2 or 3 just in case)
Headphones
Medicine (Vicks Dayquil/ Nightquil, allergy pills, cough drops, Tylenol, anti-diarrhea)
Money (exchange at airport)
Credit Card
Journal (Highly recommend)
Book
Phone
Passport/ ID
Toothbrush/ Personal hygiene items
*Extras
Speaker
Reusable water bottle
Metal straw
Snacks/ Gum
Camera/ Go-Pro
Camel Pak
Hammock (ENO Hammock on Amazon)
This is my version of a medium packing list. I hope it helps. Please let me know if I should include anything else. Enjoy your trip and make new friends!
