Thank you for reading my blog! If you haven't checked out my forum, I hope you do because I can always use feedback and comments. This blog is dedicated to my understanding of mentorship. I have always been fond of older people, for their words of wisdom. When people think they can do just about anything by themselves, they are being presumptuous. No one can do anything extraordinary without the help of others.

My first mentor was a retired neurosurgeon that had his education from Columbia University. A man with great intellect and wisdom. It was through a local program call Take Stock in Children that paired me up with a mentor in addition with a 2 year tuition scholarship for any Florida college. Bob Morantz was more than just my first mentor. I viewed him as a true friend. We talked about a variety of topics from the purpose of school to the meaning of love. It was never superficial with Bob. It was from him that I really understood what life was all about. Unfortunately, Bob passed away my junior year due to cancer. I was unprepared for this news. Depression hit me for a while. Not gonna lie, I was starting to question the meaning of life at that point.

The whole success behind Take Stock in Children revolves around mentorship. As students are growing up, they are bombarded with factors like friend groups, extracurricular, grades, and family that they need the extra support from mentors. Seeing the situation that I was in, Take Stock in Children coordinators assigned me a new mentor for the last year of my high school career. His name is Steve Weisberg. Steve was very good friend with Bob before he passed away, and Steve always heard from Bob about me; therefore, Steve wanted to continue what Bob left behind. It has been 3 years since I've first met Steve ,and I got to say he did one hell of a job helping me be the person I am today. Steve and Bob were very similar in terms of their style of mentoring. Maybe that was why I didn't haven't such a difficult time adjusting to a new mentor.

This is an introductory blog to my understanding of mentorship. However, what I will leave you with is that finding mentors might be the best move you could ever make in life. Mentors are people who have already gone through much of the process. They've already made mistakes or succeeded in their fields. I see too many of my peers who have ended up going down the wrong path because they lacked guidance. I sincerely wished they had mentors in their lives so things would be different. Having another person who has done it before you give you advice has so much value.

Perspective is everything!
